How to Know When You’re Ready for a New Pet

Dear Jack,
When can I think about getting another pet?

You must be thinking of it now or you wouldn’t have asked me this question. It took Kate six months to start thinking about it. She kept pushing it from her mind, telling herself "It's too soon. It's too soon." It's never too soon; it's never too late. You have your own timeline. You will do it when it's right for you, if it's right for you. There is nothing on earth that could make us happier than you giving another pet a chance at a beautiful life. Whatever the reasons, you will not be ready until you are ready. The day you are ready it won’t matter what anyone tells you. You will go.

You will not be ready until you stop looking for me. You cannot find me in another pet. I am not there. That would be your error, to look for me in someone else. You need to learn new lessons now and you need a new kind of pet. It’s how it is Designed. Each pet brings different tasks and lessons to their human to be completed. Each one of us is an invitation to love more, be more, give more, receive more, and understand more. Each one of us is an invitation to you to become so much more than you ever were before.

It will be a different kind of love. We have come to heal you and to teach you the next advanced levels of love lessons. We are often the bridge to your healing. Your new pet will bring whatever kind of love you still need to learn. And it will be good.

It can bring a strange dis-ease, when you get another pet while grieving the last one. The ease of being with the one you loved and were so familiar with, combined with the new challenges of training and getting to know the new one can be complex. Your previous pet taught you how to love even more than you ever did before, so please honor them by using what they have taught you…to love again.  There are many pets who have been rescued – or who are not rescued yet but need to be – who are just waiting to love and be loved. It will be different but it will be equally rewarding. Sometimes the love that builds over time is the love that makes you see its power where once it started from nothing.

                                                            Love, Jack

“Love is the strongest force in the universe. I have taught you to love so that you will love again and so you will get stronger and stronger. It may be a week, it may be a year, or less or more. Don't try to judge it or plan it out. The right pet will come to you at the right time. I know what you need better than anyone does. I know what you need and now that you know better how to love without conditions, I am in a very good position to bring more love into your life. When you are ready.”
Only Gone from Your Sight

Some surround themselves with pets because they want to surround themselves with perfect love. But it doesn't seem perfect because even though the love lasts forever, the pet does not last a human lifetime. We come and go in 7 years, 12 years, 16 maybe even 20. We must leave you so you learn to have faith in the process of losing and so that you have an opportunity to apply what you learned again. Each time you love, you learn a little more. Your faith grows stronger than it was before. Love feels so good that eventually you will want it again. It's By Design. Each time you are transformed by the love you give and by the love you receive.

There is a reason for everything and no matter what it may look like to you, the reason is always love. All will be revealed in due time.
