Dear Jack,
I'm trying so hard to bless them and let them go!!!
Try not to try too hard dear one. Breathe. Try to relax into it, I know it’s difficult. Inhale: bless them. Exhale: let them go. Remember the old adage, “If you love something, let it go”? The irony is that they can return to you if you do! The letting go is key. But only when you are ready. Don’t let go of the love; let go of the grief that keeps you apart. Focus on the strength of the love in your heart.
Love, Jack

About this letter
This short letter is part of Jack McAfghan: Letters From Rainbow Bridge. A reader says they are trying so hard to bless their pets and let them go. Jack's reply is a gentle reminder not to try too hard.
The breathing exercise
Jack suggests breathing and relaxing into it: inhale, bless them; exhale, let them go. He recalls the old saying that if you love something, let it go, and says the letting go is key, but only when you are ready. His advice is not to let go of the love, but to let go of the grief that keeps you apart, and to focus on the strength of the love in your heart.
Letting go without forgetting
Letting go of grief does not mean letting go of the memories or the bond. Many people find it helps to create a ritual, such as lighting a candle, planting a flower or writing a letter, to mark a gentle shift from pain towards remembrance. Allow yourself to move at your own pace, and seek support if the grief feels too heavy to carry alone.
