We rescued Cooper from the Humane Society 2 years ago. I knew when I saw him on their website he was going to come home with me that day. When we got there, they told us he was extremely timid and may not let us touch him. This did not change my mind in the slightest.
She brought him in; at that time his name was Beau. He cowered in the corner of the room and urinated on the floor because he was so scared. I instantly started crying, in my mind thinking, "It's okay baby boy, you never have to be scared again." I slid down from my chair onto the floor and just talked to him from across the room. He didn't budge from the corner, trembling with fear.
I ever so slightly started to slide closer to him, still talking to him. After a few minutes, I was finally close enough to touch him and I just gave him a quick pet and let him sniff me. He turned, looked at me, and lifted his paw to "shake" and I just started bawling. I held his paw and told him he was a good boy, and his tail started to wag. I slid back over to sit in the chair, he followed me and sat between my feet, again giving me his paw. He was mine.
The lady came in to get him. I said, "He's coming home with me!" She smiled and said, "Okay, I need to take him back until we get the paperwork done." When she took him, the look in his eye as if he didn't want to leave me shattered my heart. Needless to say, I rushed them to get the paperwork done.
When she brought him back out to the front lobby, the excitement he shared with me in front of everyone in that lobby brought so many tears to everyone's eyes. It was as if we were reunited after a long separation! He was no longer the scared pup sitting in the corner; he was my loyal sidekick. From that day forward we haven't spent a day apart.
He is my whole world. All he wants is to play ball and cuddle. He will always be a mama's boy! ❤️
